We're thrilled to introduce a new feature you've been asking for Refining events in LiveSession! 

The "Refine Events" feature allows users to add event properties to their custom events for more detailed analysis and insights. By refining events with specific properties and values, users can filter sessions, create metrics, and add funnel steps that provide granular details about user interactions. 

You can pass any properties you want. For e-commerce, this could include information about the value of the product added to the cart, the name of the product, or the quantity. For SaaS products, it could be the name of the plan, the currency, the number of users, and more. This flexibility allows you to capture a wide range of data points to enrich your event tracking and analysis.

• Add Custom Events with properties: Enhance your custom events by adding specific properties and values. For instance, refine a "Signup" event with properties like "from" and values such as "Header," "Hero," or "Footer" to gain more context on user actions. See how to add Custom Events
• Filter Sessions: Use refined custom events to filter sessions based on specific criteria. Analyze user behavior more precisely by focusing on refined properties.
• Create Detailed Metrics: Develop metrics that provide insights into specific user interactions, like the conversion rate of users signing up from different sections of your site.
• Add Funnel Steps: Incorporate refined events into your funnel analysis for a clearer understanding of user journeys and behaviors.

Future Enhancements

We're planning to extend the Refine Event feature to include properties for all events, not just custom events. Soon, you'll be able to refine standard events such as "Clicked" or "Visited URL" events.

The event list in the session player will now include product photos, names, and prices for 'Added to Cart' events, providing a more detailed and comprehensive view. Additionally, this upgrade also applies to 'Product Viewed' events, where you can now see the photo and name of the product viewed by the user.

What's New?

• Product Photos: Easily see which products have been added to the cart or viewed by the user with clear, detailed images.
• Product Names: Quickly identify the products added to the cart or viewed by their names.
• Product Prices: View the total price and price per item for a more transparent shopping experience (for 'Added to Cart' events).

How Does It Work?

When a user adds a product to their cart or views a product, the event list in the session player will now display the product photo, name, and for 'Added to Cart' events, the price. This offers a more detailed overview of the cart's contents and the products viewed.

Today, we’re excited to announce that we released a bunch of improvements for LiveSession Metrics!

1. Editing metric name

You can now easily change the name of the Metric or add a description to it. Just click on the name of metric:

You can now group by properties like Referrer, Start URL, Exit URL, and UTM Tags.

Today, we are thrilled to announce that Metrics are now in open beta and being rolled out to everyone, bringing quantitative analytics into LiveSession! 

What are Metrics?

With Metrics, you can track key interactions and KPIs on your site or application. Metric can be one of those types:

• Sessions - Count of sessions
• Unique Users - Count of unique users in sessions (e.g. how many users registered last month)
• Events - the number of times the selected event happened (e.g. how many times users clicked on the signup button)
• Properties - The count of numeric properties in the sessions. You can count the value using Sum, Max, Min, Average functions (e.g.. a count of the duration across the sessions or a average page load time)

The definition of metric can include filters that narrow the input data for the metric. 

The result of the Metric can be displayed as:

• Trend - Displaying the sum of sessions, users, events, or properties over a period of time. The interval of this metric depends on the time range. For a single day, metric shows values in hourly intervals, for days (up to 30) in daily intervals, and for more than 30 days in weekly intervals.
  
  
  
  
  
• Number - A single number representing the count of sessions, users, events, or properties. For time-based properties, the unit is also presented.
   
  
  

• Dimensional - List of the most accurate values grouped by the selected property. For instance, count of console errors grouped by country, system, or browser. Dimensional metric shows up to 10 top values. 

  
  

  

Combining Metrics with Sessions

The sessions list applicable to Metrics, will be provided below the data visualization. You can click on the play button to navigate to a session. 

Adding Metrics to Dashboards

Dashboards are currently under development, so adding Metrics there is not available yet. This functionality will be available when we release Dashboards.

Upcoming improvements

We are planning to improve metrics with those functionalities in the upcoming months:

• Support events in dimensional metric
• Comparing segments or time ranges in metric 
• Support for custom properties in grouping for dimensional metric
• Filtering by dimension in metric’s sessions list
  
  

During this open beta phase, Metrics remain free to use for everyone. We welcome your feedback about how you’re using Metrics, what you’re having issues with or any ideas on what you’d like to see in Metrics. Give it a try, and let us know what you think.
